If Gradle has ever felt confusing, you’re not alone. Build files, tasks, dependencies, plugins, project configuration, and the Gradle lifecycle can seem like a lot to understand at first. This course is designed to make Gradle easier to understand by taking you through it step by step. We’ll start with the fundamentals and gradually build your knowledge so you can understand not only how to use Gradle, but also what is happening behind the scenes.
You’ll begin by learning what Gradle is, why it exists, and how it fits into modern software development. Then, you’ll set up Gradle and the JDK, create your first project, and learn how the Gradle Wrapper works. From there, we’ll look at the Gradle build lifecycle and break down the initialization, configuration, and execution phases. You’ll also work with Gradle tasks and create your own custom tasks so you can start automating common development tasks.
Next, we’ll dive into dependency management. You’ll learn how repositories and dependencies work and how version catalogs can help keep your projects organized. We’ll also explore Gradle plugins, custom plugins, and multi-project builds.
