Urban road flooding and inadequate surface drainage are major challenges in modern infrastructure projects. Accurate modeling and analysis of road surface drainage systems are essential for designing efficient, reliable, and compliant stormwater networks. This course provides a step-by-step, practical guide to creating and analyzing a 1D road surface drainage network using SewerGEMS and integrating it with InfoWorks ICM. You will learn how to transform real-world road layouts into functional drainage models, simulate storm events, and evaluate system performance under various design conditions.
Starting from the fundamentals, the course walks you through catchment delineation, inlet modeling, pipe network creation, rainfall application, and hydraulic simulation in SewerGEMS. You will then learn how to integrate the SewerGEMS model with InfoWorks ICM to support advanced urban drainage workflows and decision-making. The course focuses on hands-on learning, using realistic examples and industry-standard practices rather than theory alone. By the end of the course, you will be confident in building, running, and interpreting 1D road drainage models and preparing professional outputs suitable for design reviews, consultancy projects, and authority submissions.
Whether you are a student, a practicing engineer, or a professional transitioning into stormwater modeling, this course will equip you with practical skills that are directly applicable to real infrastructure projects.
