REST API versioning is now a first-class feature in Spring Framework 7 and is supported in Spring Boot 4 through auto-configuration. This makes it an important topic for Java backend developers who want to build modern, maintainable, and future-ready REST APIs. This course is designed to help you learn native, built-in REST API versioning support introduced in Spring Boot 4, built on Spring Framework 7. In this short and practical course, you will learn how to implement REST API versioning with Spring Boot 4 and Spring Framework 7 using a hands-on Product REST API example.
We will start by creating a Spring Boot 4 project in IntelliJ IDEA. Then, we will build simple Product APIs such as create product, get product by ID, and get all products. Once the base REST APIs are ready, we will implement different API versioning strategies step by step. You will learn how to version REST APIs using the URI path, query parameter, request header, and media type. These are common strategies used in real-world backend applications when APIs evolve over time and existing clients must continue working without breaking changes.
