Every control system is only as good as the instruments feeding it. A miscalibrated transmitter, an incorrectly specified control valve, or an IS loop that violates entity parameters does not just affect accuracy — it creates safety risk, regulatory exposure, and plant downtime.
This course teaches the instrumentation layer that every control loop depends on, the way it is specified and installed on operating process plants. It covers measurement fundamentals, the four measured variables, smart transmitters and HART, control valve selection and sizing, and hazardous area protection.
The work is anchored in the standards that govern it: ISA instrument datasheets and specification practice, the HART protocol for smart device communication, and the ATEX and intrinsic safety framework — Ex i, Ex d, zones, gas groups, and temperature classes — that determines what equipment is legal in a hazardous area.
