This online video course offers a comprehensive yet accessible introduction to SAE ARP 4754B, the internationally recognized guideline for the development and certification of aircraft and aircraft systems. The course is specifically designed for beginners who have little or no prior experience with ARP 4754B and who are looking for a clear, structured overview rather than detailed system engineering training.
Throughout the course, learners will gain an understanding of the purpose and background of ARP 4754B and its role in ensuring safe and compliant aircraft and system development. The course explains how ARP 4754B fits into the overall aircraft certification framework and how it interfaces with other key standards such as ARP 4761, DO-178C, and DO-254. The relationship between system development, safety assessment, validation, verification, configuration management, and process assurance is introduced in a coherent and practical way.
Key concepts such as Functional Development Assurance Levels (FDALs), system life cycle processes, requirements development, validation versus verification, independence, configuration management, and modification and reuse are explained in a clear and intuitive manner. The course emphasizes how ARP 4754B supports structured decision-making and traceability across the entire aircraft and system life cycle.
The focus of the course is on explaining what ARP 4754B requires and why these requirements exist, rather than prescribing specific system engineering methods or tools. Detailed design techniques, organization-specific processes, and discipline-specific implementations are intentionally kept at a high level to ensure the material remains accessible to newcomers.
By the end of the course, participants will be familiar with essential ARP 4754B terminology and principles and will understand the expectations placed on organizations and teams involved in aircraft and system development under certification constraints. This foundational knowledge will enable learners to better communicate with system engineers, safety specialists, software and hardware teams, quality assurance personnel, and certification authorities, and will prepare them for more advanced training in system safety and development assurance.
This course is ideal for engineers entering the avionics or aerospace domain, system engineers, project and program managers, safety and quality professionals, and anyone seeking a solid introductory overview of the ARP 4754B guideline.
