Welcome to MIL-STD-461E: Practical EMI/EMC Testing, Compliance & Certification, a comprehensive training course designed for engineers, technicians, students, and professionals who want to develop a strong understanding of military electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility requirements. In modern defence, aerospace, avionics, naval, and electronic systems, multiple electronic subsystems must operate together reliably in complex electromagnetic environments. Equipment must control the electromagnetic energy it generates while also remaining functional when exposed to electromagnetic disturbances. This course introduces the engineering principles and practical test approaches used to evaluate these requirements.
Throughout the course, you will develop a structured understanding of MIL-STD-461E, including its electromagnetic compatibility philosophy, test categories, laboratory configurations, instrumentation, measurement techniques, and compliance verification concepts. You will explore Conducted Emissions (CE), Conducted Susceptibility (CS), Radiated Emissions (RE), and Radiated Susceptibility (RS) and understand how different electromagnetic coupling mechanisms require different test methods.
The course covers important MIL-STD-461E test methods including CE101, CE102, CE106, CS101, CS103, CS104, CS105, CS109, CS114, CS115, CS116, RE101, RE102, RE103, RS101, RS103, and RS105, together with their respective test objectives, frequency ranges, interfaces, and laboratory considerations as presented throughout the course. You will also learn about practical EMC laboratory architecture, including Equipment Under Test (EUT) configuration, ground planes, cable routing, shielded enclosures, RF absorbers, LISNs, injection probes, monitor probes, antennas, measurement receivers, calibration, ambient-noise evaluation, and measurement tolerances.
