What if you could practice advanced Excel skills and sharpen your systems-thinking brain—without another boring sales or inventory example?
This course does exactly that.
We use music not as a “fun side topic,” but as a perfect systems playground: seven modes, twelve notes, circular patterns, formulas that repeat, and structures that almost—but not quite—fit how humans actually think. It’s the ideal testbed for rebuilding a complex legacy system into something lean, logical, and modern… exactly what you do in business all the time.
What this course really teaches (Primary: Excel & Systems Thinking)
You’ll build everything from a blank Excel sheet, the same way you’d build a financial model, dashboard, or operations tool at work—only this time the data is musical. If you work in finance, operations, analytics, or any role where you build tools in Excel, this course strengthens the exact mental muscles you use on the job—logic, structure, clarity, and communication—just in a more engaging sandbox.
Why music is the perfect Excel case study (Secondary: Music & System Redesign)
Traditional music theory is like a legacy ERP system written in the 1970s:
- It works… sort of.
- It’s full of historical choices that no modern designer would make.
- It forces you to rename everything just to measure distance (scale degrees, intervals).
- It’s not intuitive if you think like a programmer, analyst, or systems architect.
In this course, we:
- Start with the historical system (modes, scales, intervals).
- Identify its design flaws from a systems perspective.
- Rebuild it with:
- Absolute modal numbering (fixed IDs that never change)
- Modal half-steps as consistent distance units
- Tables that make patterns obvious instead of mysterious
You’ll see how to take a complicated, tradition-heavy system, respect its history, but trim it down to its logical essence—exactly what you do when you refactor business processes, pricing logic, or reporting structures.
