Students in this course will learn how to use Python for practical, script-based video editing, with a strong focus on MoviePy and additional exposure to MovieLite and Movis. They will begin by learning how to set up their development environment, including installing Python, choosing and configuring an IDE such as PyCharm or VS Code, and using virtual environments to keep project dependencies organized and separate. These early lessons help students understand how to prepare a reliable Python workspace before starting any video processing work.
The course then teaches the core MoviePy workflow. Students will learn how to import video and audio files, inspect important clip properties such as duration, resolution, frame rate, and audio availability, and close resources properly to avoid memory or file-locking issues. From there, they move into essential editing operations such as trimming clips, subclipping, and concatenating multiple clips into a single sequence. They also learn how to crop video into mobile-friendly 9:16 formats, layer clips for picture-in-picture effects, and apply spatial transformations like resizing and positioning.
