Are you ready to dive into the fascinating world of photonic integrated circuits? This course is designed for engineers, researchers, and curious students eager to master the design of photonic circuits using powerful open-source tools: Nazca Design and KLayout.
Led by Mattia Conti, an Italian photonic engineer with nearly five years of industry experience and passion for coding, this course blends deep technical insight with hands-on design practice. You’ll start by understanding the core building blocks of photonic circuits—waveguides, photodiodes, phase heaters and interferometers—exploring both their theoretical foundations and practical applications.
Through step-by-step tutorials, you’ll learn how to implement these components in Nazca Design, build complete circuits like optical modulators with internal feedback, and visualize your layouts in KLayout. You’ll also perform Design Rule Checks (DRC) to ensure your designs meet fabrication standards.
Whether you’re a seasoned professional looking to expand your toolkit or a student entering the field of integrated photonics, this course offers a clear, structured path to mastering PIC design. By the end, you’ll be equipped to create, simulate, and verify your own photonic circuits with confidence. You will gain practical skills, industry-relevant knowledge, and confidence to design innovative photonic solutions that bridge theory with real-world applications.
