Welcome to KiCad for Electronics Students – Core 1: Absolute Basics, a beginner-friendly course designed to teach you the fundamentals of PCB design using KiCad, one of the world’s most popular free and open-source Electronic Design Automation (EDA) software packages. If you’ve never designed a printed circuit board before, this course is the perfect place to start. No prior experience with KiCad or PCB design is required. Every concept is explained step by step, allowing you to learn at your own pace while following practical demonstrations.
In this course, you will learn how to install KiCad, create projects, understand the KiCad workspace, design electronic schematics, connect components, use power symbols and net labels, assign footprints, create PCB layouts, place components, draw board outlines, route copper tracks, perform Electrical Rules Check (ERC) and Design Rules Check (DRC), and view your finished PCB in 3D.
The course is accompanied by the KiCad for Electronics Students – Core 1 textbook, making it easy to follow along and reinforce each lesson with structured learning.
