IEC 61850-8-2: Specific Communication Service Mapping (SCSM) – Mapping to XMPP is a practical technical course designed to help students, engineers, technicians, researchers, and power-system professionals understand how IEC 61850 communication services can be mapped and exchanged using XMPP. The course begins with the fundamentals of IEC 61850-8-2 SCSM and progressively explains the communication architecture, ACSI services, MMS concepts, XML/XSD payload structures, and XMPP-based communication.
You will explore how IEC 61850 information is represented and mapped, including Servers, Logical Devices, Logical Nodes, Data Objects, Data Attributes, DataSets, Logs, and Files. The course also explains hierarchical and flattened object references, VariableAccessSpecification, Alternate Access, basic data types, arrays, ObjectName, and ObjectReference.
A major part of the course focuses on end-to-end security using IEC 62351-4. You will learn the role of digital certificates, signatures, authentication, Diffie-Hellman key exchange, session keys, integrity protection, and data confidentiality in securing IEC 61850-8-2 communication.
