This course provides a comprehensive introduction to inverter systems used in hybrid and electric vehicles. Learners will understand how the inverter controls the flow of electrical energy between the high-voltage battery and the electric motor-generator.
The course explains the inverter’s main components, operating principles, power electronics, cooling system, control signals, common faults, and professional diagnostic methods. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical diagnostic examples while emphasizing high-voltage safety procedures. Hybrid inverter systems operate at potentially lethal voltage levels. Practical inspection, testing, or repair must only be performed by qualified personnel using approved protective equipment, insulated tools, and the vehicle manufacturer’s official service procedures.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain the function of an inverter in hybrid vehicles.
- Understand the relationship between the high-voltage battery, inverter, motor-generator, and vehicle control modules.
- Explain how DC electrical power is converted into three-phase AC power.
- Understand how AC power is converted back into DC power during regenerative braking.
- Identify the main internal components of an automotive inverter.
