Drawing with fineliners goes far beyond outlining shapes or filling areas with lines. To create an expressive, detailed and visually engaging illustration, you need to understand how to control your linework, represent different materials, build light and shadow, and organise every element into a coherent composition.
In this course, you will learn a complete method for creating fineliner illustrations, from the first technical exercises to the creation and digitalisation of a final artwork. Throughout the lessons, illustrator Kako will guide you step by step, sharing his creative process, the techniques he uses and the decisions he makes while developing an illustration. You will begin by exploring the essential materials and learning how to control the pressure, direction, rhythm and density of your lines. You will then experiment with different hatching, cross-hatching and stippling techniques to create volume, depth, contrast and variations in light.
You will also learn how to represent textures such as fur, metal, matte surfaces, skin, hair and even the texture of a human heart, understanding how each material can be suggested through linework. You will discover how to use visual references and artificial intelligence tools, and how to combine real elements with imagination to transform scattered ideas into a composition with its own narrative and identity.
