Disclosure. This course contains the use of artificial intelligence. It is a real instructor but we use AI images to enhance the visual experience. Take your Excel, accounting information systems, and data-modeling skills in a new direction by building a dynamic musical coordinate system from the ground up in Microsoft Excel.
Throughout the course, we will compare the system we build in Excel with familiar accounting structures. Musical reference data can be organized much like a chart of accounts. Standardized identifiers can function much like account numbers. Data-entry interfaces can be compared with accounting forms and source documents. Detailed information can be consolidated, transformed, and displayed in different reporting formats, much as accounting data moves from source information through journals, ledgers, and financial reports.
The difference is the dataset. Music provides an unusually structured environment for practicing data organization and analysis. Its repeating numerical relationships, fixed reference points, relative classifications, and multiple possible reporting perspectives make it particularly useful for exploring how a well-designed data system can store one underlying set of information while presenting that information in many different ways.
