The CAD and 3D modeling session compares 2D drafting, designing, 3D modeling and animation, then introduces CAD apps, TinkerCAD, 3ds Max, Civil 3D and SketchUp. Project management covers understanding projects, the 10 areas of project management, the key information needed before preparing a project plan, PMP versus PRINCE2, PM apps, Monday project management and Microsoft Project. You then get an introduction to GIS, followed by contract documents and compliance: FIDIC contracts (RED versus Yellow versus Silver Book), NEC contracts and JCT contracts. Later sessions introduce BIM in detail, facade engineering (basics, pathways, FrameProduction FPPro and jobs and business opportunities), quantity survey (duties, tools, skills, takeoff types and estimating tools) and land survey (equipment, software, Civil 3D survey databases and current innovations).
This course is for English-speaking civil engineering students and fresh graduates mapping out their learning and career options. No software is required to follow the course. The focus is orientation and understanding, rather than promising a job or a certification. This is an orientation course, not a promise to master every application mentioned. Its value is the connection between tools and roles: where drafting ends and modeling begins, how project planning differs from design, and why land survey and quantity survey require different skills. As you study, make a shortlist of the areas you want to explore further. Use the comparisons to ask better questions about a learning path instead of choosing software simply because its name is familiar.
