What you’ll learn
- Understand the fundamentals of IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting.
- Configure and manage DNS and DHCP services in a Windows network.
- Set up file sharing, user permissions, and resource access in local networks.
- Work with Windows Firewall, Network Discovery, and secure computer connections.
- Learn essential networking commands and troubleshooting techniques.
- Join computers to a Domain and explore Active Directory and Group Policy basics.
In this part of the networking course, you’ll become familiar with essential concepts and both basic and advanced configurations in Windows environments. We begin with an overview of IPv4 and IPv6, followed by an explanation of Subnet Mask and Default Gateway structure. Next, we explore how the DNS system works and its role in resolving names and addresses across the network.
We then introduce the DHCP service and demonstrate how to configure it in different network setups to simplify IP address management. The course also covers the pros and cons of using static vs. dynamic IP addresses in detail, helping learners choose the best method for various scenarios. Understanding the Windows Firewall and its basic settings is another key topic to ensure network security.
Next, you’ll learn about Network Discovery and how to connect computers using either their IP address or hostname. We’ll also explore file and resource sharing in local networks, working with Share Permissions, and managing Users and Groups for proper access control.
To wrap up, we cover essential network command-line tools, the role of Group Policy, differences between Domain and WorkGroup, an introduction to Active Directory, and finally, how to join systems to a Domain environment with confidence and accuracy.
