Topics: modeling using spline and polygonal techniques and modifiers for furniture and design elements; creating mapping coordinates via unwrapping; creating materials in V-Ray, mental ray, and Iray; and comparing rendering results across V-Ray, mental ray, and Iray.
Multiple exercises using different modeling techniques for the same objects provide a comprehensive overview of available methods. In this course, we will use the following modeling techniques: basic spline construction, spline outlining and extrusion, symmetry and Edit Poly, creating holes and beveling geometry, using the Shell modifier for thickness, and polygonal extrusions. Attached to the lessons are 3ds Max 2016 exercise files configured for the mental ray render engine (compatible up to 3ds Max 2017), as well as 3ds Max 2016 and 2017 exercise files configured for the V-Ray render engine.
Note: The exercise files are attached to the lesson “3dsmax_002_Basic Spline Construction”
Updates: Exercise files for 3ds Max 2020 configured for V-Ray have been added.
