If questions like these make you a little hesitant to approach your next design project, you’re not alone. And that’s where potter and designer Jonathan Adler comes in. It’s personal and it feels like you, not just on an average day, but when you’re at your absolute best.

Along the way, while you consider the vast and eye-popping history of design, you’ll be introduced to some of Jonathan’s biggest influences and inspirations and you’ll learn handy tips and tricks to use just like the experts. With this foundation in place, you’ll be able to throw off the shackles of societal expectations regarding taste, to put your own stamp on your design choices to make the spaces around you truly memorable—and truly “you”.
Building Your Brand: The key to building your design brand is starting with a three-word branding guide. First, pick an adjective that describes a personal trait (“well-read”); second, detee the emotional vibe you’re looking for (“farmhouse”); third, name your occupation or lifestyle, or who you want to be (“socialite”). Putting them together, there’s your brand: well-read farmhouse socialite.
But more inspiring than design legends of the past is a design legend of today. Jonathan and his namesake brand have become icons of Modern American Glamour, and this series is a unique and exclusive opportunity to sit down and learn from the master potter and designer himself.
“As with all decorating moves, you really can do anything,” Jonathan says in Decorate like a Designer, with Jonathan Adler. “Just make sure you understand the choices you’re making in context. Understand the history and meaning of your decorating gestures, and use them thoughtfully.”
