Color Theory Off The Cuff: Applying Color With Spontaneity

We will learn color theory and incorporate it into our digital art in a spontaneous way rather than rigidly preplanning a series of “limitations” you have to stay within.  This is also for those interested in learning not only what works but why it works and how to apply it.

What you will learn:

• An effective, digital sketching process.
• How to develop our palette on the fly as we sketch.
• We study different color schemes, break down how they work, and derive practical wisdom that can be applied spontaneously as we do color sketches/paintings.
• We will analyze images that are underpinned with simple, effective, and sophisticated uses of color theory and derive the practical wisdom necessary to improvise color as we sketch.

Why you should take this class:

• You want make digital art and want to make better color choices.
• If you want to develop a visceral sense of what “works” with color via an intellectual route.

Who this class is for:

• We cover what we need to know to spontaneously color to our sketches.
• If rigidly and tediously preplanning palettes has alienated you from learning about color, this class if your you!
• This class is good for beginners, but there is a lot nuanced wisdom in here for people with advanced experience.
• People transitioning from using paint to working digitally, and you struggle creating the harmony that came so naturally by working traditionally, this class is for you.
