Description
CHR0MA is a replacement for Hue/Saturation that uses Oklab color science. It has an improved layout and creates better results.
CHR0MA is a color-grading plugin for Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro that replaces the standard Hue/Saturation workflow using the Oklab color model. The idea is to preserve perceived brightness and avoid muddy or overly neon color shifts when adjusting hue and saturation.
Key points:
- Uses Oklab/Oklch color science instead of standard sRGB adjustments
- Designed for cleaner hue rotation and saturation changes
- Open source
- “Name Your Own Price” licensing for individuals
- Works with AE and Premiere versions from CC 2017 through 2026
The plugin is positioned as:
“Hue/Saturation but better”
Why people care about Oklab:
- Traditional hue shifting in AE can flatten contrast or create ugly artifacts
- Oklab tries to align more closely with human visual perception
- You get more natural gradients and more stable luminance during color transformations
